Dasher Bottle

A small bottle fitted with a controlled-flow dasher top, used to dispense bitters or other concentrated liquids precisely by the dash.

A dasher bottle is a small glass bottle with a plastic dasher top — a specific insert that controls the flow to produce a standardized "dash" of roughly 0.625 ml per tip. Commercial bitters come in their own dasher bottles; you can also transfer bitters or house-made infusions into them for controlled dispensing. A dash is one sharp inversion of the bottle. The precision matters: bitters are used in such small quantities that inconsistency of even a single dash changes the character of the drink.

Why It Matters

Bitters are highly concentrated. The difference between two dashes and four dashes of Angostura in an Old Fashioned is significant. A dasher top ensures every dash is the same size.

Where You'll Use It

Anywhere bitters are used. Also useful for house-made infusions, shrubs in concentrated form, or any ingredient added in very small amounts.

Worth Knowing

Dropper Bottle

A dropper bottle is an amber glass bottle with a dropper cap, used to dispense very small, precise amounts of liquid — tinctures, concentrated infusions, saline solution, or highly aromatic oils. A dropper delivers roughly 0.05 ml per drop. Used in craft cocktail applications for highly concentrated ingredients where even a dash would be too much.

Atomizer

An atomizer is a small spray bottle used to mist a fine coating of liquid over the interior of a glass or the surface of a drink. Classically used for absinthe rinse (the Sazerac), an atomizer is more precise and economical than pouring and swirling. Also used to spray aromatic bitters, citrus oil, or floral waters over a finished drink as a garnish.
