Bitter & Stirred

Non-Alcoholic Boulevardier

The whiskey lover's Negroni: alcohol-free whiskey, bitter aperitivo, and sweet vermouth, stirred cold and served over a big rock. Deep, bittersweet, and unmistakably grown-up.

The Proportions

  • 1¾ oz Alcohol-Free Whiskey
  • 1¾ oz Alcohol-Free Aperitivo
  • 1¾ oz Alcohol-Free Sweet Vermouth
  • Garnish 1 orange twist

How to Make It

  1. Add the alcohol-free whiskey, aperitivo, and vermouth to a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir until well chilled and properly diluted, about 30 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Express an orange twist over the surface and drop it in.

Why This Works

The Boulevardier is the whiskey cousin of the Negroni, and it works for the same reason: three assertive ingredients in near-equal measure, held together by bitterness. Without alcohol, that bitterness matters even more, because it is doing the structural work the proof used to. This is a drink built on bitterness rather than sweetness, which is exactly why it translates so cleanly to zero proof.

Stir, do not shake. This is a spirit-forward drink meant to be silky and clear, not aerated. Stir it long and cold over plenty of ice so it arrives properly diluted. The small amount of meltwater is part of the recipe, rounding the bitter edges into something you want to sip slowly.

The orange twist is not a garnish you can skip. Expressed over the surface, its oils lift the whole drink and add the aromatic brightness that keeps a bitter, spirit-forward cocktail from feeling heavy. It is the finishing touch that makes the drink feel complete.

The Alcohol-Free Swap

This drink is a showcase for three alcohol-free ingredients working together: a warm, oak-forward AF whiskey, a genuinely bitter AF aperitivo, and a herbal AF sweet vermouth. The better each one is, the better the Boulevardier.
