Alcohol-Free Spirits Just Reached the Buc-ee's Aisle

By · August 24, 2026 · 2 min read · Reporting on BevNET

A Scottish non-alcoholic spirits maker just put four of its bottles on the shelves at Buc-ee's in Texas. A roadside mega-store is an unglamorous milestone, and that is exactly why it matters: alcohol-free is leaving the specialty aisle.

Spirits of Virtue, a Scotland-based producer of non-alcoholic spirits, has landed four of its flagship bottles at seven Buc-ee's locations across Texas. It is the company's first move into the American large-format convenience channel and, by its own account, its biggest United States distribution step to date. The bottles carry a suggested price of about 30 dollars for a 23.7 ounce format, and the maker runs a deep catalog: more than thirty products across nine brands, spanning whiskey, vodka, tequila, gin, and bourbon alternatives, with an Arkansas facility in the works to scale production.

Buc-ee's is not a boutique. It is a Texas institution of enormous stores, barbecue and beaver nuggets, and a parking lot the size of a small town, the kind of place a family stops on a road trip. Putting alcohol-free spirits on those shelves, next to the snacks and the fountain drinks, is a very different bet than selling them through a curated non-alcoholic bottle shop.

The Cr(af)ted Take

We have written about the alcohol-free bottle shop as a sign the category was growing up. This is the next chapter, and it is a good deal less romantic: the drinks turning up where people who were not looking for them will see them anyway. Discovery in a specialty shop is a choice you already made before you walked in. Discovery on a Buc-ee's endcap is an accident that turns into a habit.

Convenience retail is also a brutally honest test. There is no knowledgeable staff to explain what a non-alcoholic bourbon is for, no curated shelf-talker, just a bottle competing for a few seconds of attention against everything else in a very loud store. If alcohol-free spirits can earn a spot there and actually sell through, they stop being a lifestyle statement and become a normal thing you can buy on the way home, which is the only definition of mainstream that really counts.
