Non-Alcoholic Beer Margarita

A pool-party classic, made alcohol-free: NA lager, AF tequila, limeade, and a salt rim. Somewhere between a margarita and a shandy, and better than both on a hot day.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottleNon-alcoholic lager, cold
  • 2 ozAlcohol-free tequila
  • 3 ozLimeade (or 1 oz lime juice, 1 oz simple syrup, 1 oz water)
  • For the rimSalt
  • 1Lime wheel, to garnish

The Proportions

  • 1 bottle Non-alcoholic lager, cold
  • 2¾ oz Alcohol-free tequila
  • 3¾ oz Limeade
  • For the rim Salt
  • 1 Lime wheel, to garnish

How to Make It

  1. Salt the rim of a tall glass and fill with ice.
  2. Add the alcohol-free tequila and limeade.
  3. Top with cold non-alcoholic lager and stir gently.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Why This Works

The beer margarita sounds like a novelty until you have one on a hot day. The lager stretches the margarita into something longer and more sessionable, and the lime ties it all together.

Alcohol-free tequila brings the agave backbone so the drink reads as a margarita, not just a limey beer. Without it you have a shandy; with it you have a cocktail.

Keep the limeade tart. The beer adds a little sweetness of its own, so a sharp lime base keeps the whole thing balanced.

The Alcohol-Free Swap

You need both a good non-alcoholic lager and an alcohol-free tequila with real agave character. The beer lengthens the drink; the tequila gives it identity.
