Two-Ingredient Classic

Non-Alcoholic Whiskey Ginger

The easiest great drink there is: alcohol-free whiskey and ginger ale over ice with a squeeze of lime. Thirty seconds of effort for a drink that never misses.

Ingredients

Looking for the alcohol-free spirits? I shop Better Rhodes — the best AF selection I've found.

How to Make It

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Add the alcohol-free whiskey.
  3. Top with ginger ale and stir gently — just once or twice to combine.
  4. Squeeze the lime wedge over the top and drop it in.

Why This Works

The whiskey ginger works because ginger ale and whiskey share vocabulary — vanilla, warmth, a little spice — so they blend rather than compete. Ginger ale is gentler than ginger beer, which is the point here: this is the smoother, easier-drinking cousin of the mule.

Restraint in the stir is what preserves the drink. Every rotation of the spoon knocks carbonation out of solution, and the bubbles carry both the texture and the ginger aroma. Combine gently, and let the lime's fresh bite do the finishing work.

The Alcohol-Free Swap

Alcohol-free whiskey's vanilla-and-oak profile locks into ginger ale's spice naturally — this is one of the most forgiving pairings in the AF repertoire.
